Courtyard House In T.O.

courtyard_1

One thing that helps to make a city unique in its look is architecture. We’ve decided to start showcasing the wonderful projects that make Toronto different when it comes to architecture and design.

Although this may be old to some, we hope that most of you have never seen the “Courtyard House”, located at 2087R Davenport Road. This home was designed by Toronto based architecture firm Studio Junction in 2007 and featured in “Doors Open Toronto” later that same year. The house allows traditional indoor living spaces to be open to the outdoors, including a courtyard style concept that remains evident both inside and out. It’s an incredible mix of home and office with an element of nature that is difficult to find in the gritty city life.

Fashionably Yours

Our friend and celebrity stylist Janet Han has recently opened her new store “Fashionably Yours”, located at 632 Queen St. West. The designer boutique is based on the idea of “Buy it, wear it, sell it”…allowing all types of fashion conscious people (on a budget) to find something they’ll like.

Make sure you say hi to Janet, and don’t forget to tell her that we sent you.

Congrats Janet!

The 1st Annual M.U.C.K. (Movies of Un-Common Knowledge) Film Festival will take place in Toronto, between October 1st – 4th, at The Royal Theatre located at 608 College Street.

The selected movies all share a common perspective—a cinematic counter-culture that presents us with a choice between a comfortable ignorance or a increasingly painful reality. The films are about social change, not only in our own communities but around the world.

We’re interested to see what comes from this film fest!

Amnesia 10 Year Anniversary

Toronto has some of the hardest people to please when it comes to partying. We know our music, we have an eclectic taste and we hold a very high standard when it comes to live performances. Over the past 10 years, the party known as “AMNESIA” has managed to fill a void and maintain it’s popularity as one of the best Old School events in the city. If you don’t know what we’re talking about check the history below…

The History:
In 1999, a chance conversation amongst friends unearthed the fact that the Toronto Urban entertainment scene lacked substance and failed to play music if it wasn’t new music. In fact, certain musical genres were found neglected and omitted – almost as though DJs and patrons had musical memory loss. In response, “AMNESIA”, a monthly old school event was born – with a mandate to play Classic House and Old School, and has grown to encompass other “forgotten genres” such as New Jack Swing (90s R&B), True School Hip Hop, Classic Slow Jams, and Retro including 70s and 80s television themes packaged as “Scratch’s Honky Hits.”

Over the past 10 years surprise guests have included hip hop icons MC Lyte, Special Ed, Greg Nice, CL Smooth, Chubb Rock and Naughty By Nature, house and dance acts Ten City (featuring Byron Stingly), Shannon (“Let the Music Play”), CeCe Peniston, Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam and Canadian mainstays Maestro Fresh Wes, Michee Mee, Dream Warriors and the “T-Dot All-Stars” featuring Kardinal Offishall, Saukrates, Choclair, Ro Dolla and Solitair as well as dance crews Bag-A-Trix and Do Dat Dance Agency.

Congratulations to DJ Starting from Scratch, Jason Chambers, and Ian Andre Espinet!
