On November 15th we made our way downtown for Toronto Eaton Centre’s official tree-lighting ceremony. In previous years, we’ve become accustomed to the traditional Swarovski tree, but Toronto Eaton Centre has a new holiday theme this year and introduced a new 50-foot LED Christmas tree (in addition to the six giant reindeer from last year).
Celebrity host Jeanne Beker alongside the one-and-only Santa Claus helped kick off the festivities for the night. Kreesha Turner also performed her favourite Christmas carols for the hundreds of on-lookers…

Before the tree-lighting ceremony we stopped by Guest Services and picked up our complimentary shop! card (thanks Toronto Eaton Centre!) so we could start our Christmas shopping. We checked out the newly renovated Harry Rosen store along with one of our favourite brands Scotch & Soda and of course our friends at Roots. If you don’t know where to begin your Christmas shopping, Toronto Eaton Centre is offering a new Personal Shopping Service. This FREE 90 minute service runs from November 20 – December 22, Tuesdays – Saturdays between 11am – 6pm. Participants can win 1 of 3 $75 shop! cards by tweeting about their experience using the #ShopTEC hashtag.

On Friday, Nov. 9th, we attended the “New Era Introducing” art exhibit inside the Edward Day Gallery on Queen West. “New Era Introducing” is a global creative project showcasing unique talent from across the world, including Canada. The project aims at giving creative minds of tomorrow an opportunity to make their own statement using a blank New Era 59FIFTY as their canvas. This traveling showcase will also turn into a published limited edition book featuring the works from all the artists. Take a look below at a few of our favourite hats from the show…

Toronto brand Magma, brainchild of designer Merv Maranan, has a few key pieces ready for their Fall/Winter 2012 Collection. The first being the “Officer Shirt” (as seen above, in olive), which using vintage military flannel to complete the clean, utilitarian design. The shirt also comes in a red/blue/black plaid (as seen below).
The “Thomas Cargo” (as seen above), was inspired by an old German military pant, including inverted buttons on the front to make it seem buttonless.
Last but not least, Magma continues the REISSUE program, this time offering an official military issued Multicam Camo pant. This tactical pant includes 8 pockets (with 2 lower utility pockets), teflon coated and reinforced for durability.

LACOSTE is officially launching at The Bay today! For the first time, you can shop for exclusive LACOSTE apparel, eyewear, watches, jewellery, fragrance, footwear and home fashion at The Bay. For everyone who loves shoes, we’ve got a few looks of what to expect from LACOSTE (see below).
From Nov 9th – 13th customers will also get the chance to test the speed of their tennis serve as part of the interactive pop-up shop. Do you think you’ve got what it takes? For her 2013 Spring/Summer Collection, Toronto designer Anu Raina draws on inspiration from memories of playing in her Grandfather’s garden. Lately there’s been a lot of speculation about the value of investing in young people and the arts. As Toronto’s creative young people whose lives have been positively impacted by our exposure and engagement with the arts, and as those who have the honour of working in the sector and serving our communities – we know just how valuable it is.
It’s time to mobilize. We are calling out artists, organizers, mentors, youth, elders, community leaders, community members, and visionaries to walk in solidarity for youth, arts, and cultural programs. Bring your artistic expression, rally your communities and add to a collective energy as we move down Yonge Street into Manifesto’s Live At The Square – an annual youth arts festival happening that day. Calling out participation from dancers, poets, street writers, emcees, beatboxers, visual artists, documentarians, drummers, percussionists & more – it’s time to write our story ourselves.
