Good Hair

goodhair_poster1

I was fortunate to get tickets to the screening of “Good Hair” at the Toronto Film Festival this year. Chris Rock’s quest to uncover the lengths some black women will go for their hair was revealingly funny.

Personally, the expression “good hair” wasn’t a term that was broken down for me when growing up, but it was one I understood at a young age. Go to any Black Hair Salon and you will witness what some black women label as “good hair” and what some will do to obtain and maintain it!

But with a movement of black women, including myself, embracing natural textures and hairstyles, I think we need to redefine what good hair is.

Ladies, and/or gentlemen…comments please?!

Film opens today in Toronto.

We Were Made For This

Here’s something that I loved right away, the Hudson’s Bay Company Official 2010 Olympic line. Prepping for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics/Paralympic Games and inspired by the Bay’s classic Green, Red, Yellow, and Blue stripes the line will keep you warm, fly, and reppin’ for our country all at the same time.

I’m definitely grabbing a toque, the Men’s Team Canada Parka, and the Lambs Wool Sweater. Below I’ve posted a few of my favourites.

This past saturday Scotiabank’s Nuit Blanche 2009 took over the streets of Toronto. Thousands of people toured the city checking out art installations, live performance, fashion shows and more. We spent the night traveling between Zone A, B and C until we couldn’t walk anymore.

Check out some of the pics (courtesy of Flickr) to see what you might have missed…

manillaguerillatee

Toronto has a huge Filipino community, which is why we’d like to inform everyone about the fundraising initiative by Bryan Espiritu of The Legends League. He’ll be donating 100% of profits from the sale of his “Manila Guerilla” tee to the Philippine Red Cross to help provide aid for the people affected by the storm that hit the Philippines. The storm released a months worth of rain in just 6 hours and caused the worst flooding the country has seen in 42 years. We urge anyone that wants to help to please purchase a shirt and support our global citizens – 1 LOVE T.O.

1 LOVE T.O. x VII LBS

Last week our friends from the Detroit based Photography Collective “Seven Pounds” were in town doing some work. On their down time they asked us if we would be interested in a quick photo shoot for 1 LOVE T.O.. Before we agreed, we wanted to know why they were interested in shooting us. After a great conversation, they explained how excited they were to see a city coming together. They loved the idea of unity and expressing a positive message while working with others. Their goal is to bring their different communities together in Michigan through similar interests such as art, culture, music, style and more.

Take a look at the pics below…shouts out to Future The Prince rocking the Legends League sweater.

Courtyard House In T.O.

courtyard_1

One thing that helps to make a city unique in its look is architecture. We’ve decided to start showcasing the wonderful projects that make Toronto different when it comes to architecture and design.

Although this may be old to some, we hope that most of you have never seen the “Courtyard House”, located at 2087R Davenport Road. This home was designed by Toronto based architecture firm Studio Junction in 2007 and featured in “Doors Open Toronto” later that same year. The house allows traditional indoor living spaces to be open to the outdoors, including a courtyard style concept that remains evident both inside and out. It’s an incredible mix of home and office with an element of nature that is difficult to find in the gritty city life.
