Wild Moon By Asia Clarke

WildMoon_1

What started out as a personal jewellery DIY turned into a full blown (aesthetically pleasing) accessories line; Wild Moon by Asia Clarke. I was fortunate enough to meet up with the designer at Pretty Freedom in Kensington Market. Like Asia, the vibe at Pretty Freedom was peaceful so it is no wonder that they are one of her stockists. During my time at the boutique Asia began to tell me her story.

Like countless others the Scarborough native became bored of the generic, mass-produced accessories that a lot of retail stores had to offer. In her quest for something more, she began creating her own necklaces. She started wearing them, friends began to inquire and from there the brand caught on. Her line now consists of necklaces and earrings and for those who seek exclusivity; most of the pieces are one-of-a-kind. Some are made up of stones with different purposes, vintage pendants or a combination of both. The free-falling necklaces are bold and the way that they move when worn is meant to give off the impression that they are alive. The mergence of cultures and ideologies found growing up in Toronto had a major part to play in expressing Wild Moon’s aesthetic, it is a “direct reflection of lived experiences translated into art form”.

Asia considers Wild Moon not only to be an accessories line but an outlet for her creative expression. In the future expect more elaborate body pieces, collaborations with other artists and even Wild Moon apparel. Just another instance of a creative mind moving around the city in a positive direction.

Dsquared² A Decade Ago

DSquared

It’s been 10 years since Toronto-born design duo DSQUARED² debuted their womenswear line in Milan. The “24-7 Star” show featured an abundance of extra low waistlines, baggy pants, baby tees, baseball caps and aviator sunglasses; it embodied the tomboy/super model off-duty (but still chic) look. It’s no surprise that around the same time that this collection was launched, the twins also provided the wardrobe for the Christina Aguilera “Stripped” tour – her clothing during that time practically mirrored the show.

Although DSQUARED² already had much success in menswear prior to 2003, this was definitely a memorable moment in their career and in fashion history!

Vans Flagship Store In Toronto

Vans recently celebrated the opening of their second Canadian store on Toronto’s Yonge Street with an in-store event this past weekend on Saturday December 8th. The downtown Toronto location is state of the art in design and will serve as Vans’ Flagship store for a new look that is currently rolling out globally. Legendary skater John Cardiel was on deck to meet with fans and deliver his favorite tracks as the Vans guest DJ. Joining him, Los Angeles based artist Greg ‘Pnut’ Galinsky greeted fans and gave away hats with free custom paint jobs.

The Vans Canadian Flagship store is located at 245 Yonge Street between Dundas & Queen, neighbouring The Toronto Eaton Centre, and Yonge-Dundas Square.

Amex Holiday Hotlist With T-rexXx

Well Toronto is definitely in gear for Christmas 2012. The tree is in at Nathan Phillips Square, the lights are up on Yonge St. and the invites for all the ugly Christmas sweater parties are in circulation. However you choose to celebrate the holiday’s, it’s important to be spending time with your friends and family. So as you confirm plans with some and graciously deny that annoying uncle with the close talker for a girlfriend, you may want to start thinking about ways to tackle your holiday shopping as well – that one thing we all dream of getting a head start on.

Amex has created an online gift guide, “The Holiday Hotlist”, featuring the must-have online finds of the season, and asked us to pick our favourite items and create our own Holiday Hotlist. Not only is it fun to browse through some of the top gift ideas this year, but it’s a great way to subtly answer the always awkward question your friends and family ask “what do you want for Christmas?” We have the Tom Ford Cologne, The Founder Club Believe package and the Burberry Brit white plaid scarf on our list this year and are sharing our wishlist on Facebook in the hopes that we get what we really want this season. Make your own wishlist by clicking HERE.

Shopping online is fairly new for some of us but in a recent survey Amex revealed that a 1/4 of Canadians would rather clean their toilet than go shopping the week before Christmas. We’re with them – anything to avoid the chaos at the mall or participate in the madness of a parking lot. Check out the Holiday Hotlist on Facebook and while you’re there get an early start on your shopping from the comfort of your couch or the office.

Happy Holidays :)

CONCEPT
Typically, we’re used to hearing the phrase ‘cut from a different cloth’, meaning that someone or something is superior or different. In our effort to provide a common thread between the unique differences that make our city so special, we’ve developed the concept “Cut From The Same Cloth”. This concept allows us to create an individualized garment, where no two sweaters look the exact same. The heart is made from a carefully selected piece of woodlands camouflage fabric, which means each heart will look slightly different but will be cut from the same cloth. Fortunately, our sense of inclusiveness has not been lost, even though each heart appears to be different, each heart still shares the same connection.

DESIGN
The original “1 LOVE T.O.” logo has been purposely redesigned to fit the “CFTSC” concept, by rearranging the elements to include a pair of scissors. The scissors are strategically placed above the heart (facing down), as if to suggest the cutting of the heart. This design not only stays consistent with our concept for the crewnecks, but helps to bring it to life, as each heart has been individually cut from the same cloth.

AVAILABLE MID-DECEMBER

On November 15th we made our way downtown for Toronto Eaton Centre’s official tree-lighting ceremony. In previous years, we’ve become accustomed to the traditional Swarovski tree, but Toronto Eaton Centre has a new holiday theme this year and introduced a new 50-foot LED Christmas tree (in addition to the six giant reindeer from last year).

Celebrity host Jeanne Beker alongside the one-and-only Santa Claus helped kick off the festivities for the night. Kreesha Turner also performed her favourite Christmas carols for the hundreds of on-lookers…

If you missed out, don’t worry, check out the photos below!

Before the tree-lighting ceremony we stopped by Guest Services and picked up our complimentary shop! card (thanks Toronto Eaton Centre!) so we could start our Christmas shopping. We checked out the newly renovated Harry Rosen store along with one of our favourite brands Scotch & Soda and of course our friends at Roots. If you don’t know where to begin your Christmas shopping, Toronto Eaton Centre is offering a new Personal Shopping Service. This FREE 90 minute service runs from November 20 – December 22, Tuesdays – Saturdays between 11am – 6pm. Participants can win 1 of 3 $75 shop! cards by tweeting about their experience using the #ShopTEC hashtag.

New Era Introducing

On Friday, Nov. 9th, we attended the “New Era Introducing” art exhibit inside the Edward Day Gallery on Queen West. “New Era Introducing” is a global creative project showcasing unique talent from across the world, including Canada. The project aims at giving creative minds of tomorrow an opportunity to make their own statement using a blank New Era 59FIFTY as their canvas. This traveling showcase will also turn into a published limited edition book featuring the works from all the artists. Take a look below at a few of our favourite hats from the show…
