On Saturday, July 7th, Toronto played host to the 2nd annual Canadian Red Bull “King of the Rock” 1-on-1 Basketball Tournament. Aaron Duncan (returning Canadian champion) was back to defend his title against 46 of Toronto’s top ballers. Players had to battle it out at the Sherbourne Common, for their chance to represent Canada in the world-finals at Alcatraz.
After 3 hours and 5 rounds of intense play, there were only 3 men left standing: Kevin Messiah, Liam McMorrow and returning champ Aaron Duncan. Aaron managed to beat Kevin 6-2 in the first game of the round-robin finals. In game 2, Aaron faced big man Liam at a towering 7’1″, which proved to be the toughest match-up of the day. The final game was close, but Liam was defeated 10-7 by the returning champ Aaron Duncan!
All 3 players received prizes from the official partner Skull Candy, and Aaron received an additional $500 in prize money, a trophy, and a ticket to Alcatraz for September 22, where he’ll be competing against the worlds best street ballers. Last year, Aaron was the only international qualifier to make it to the Top 8 at Alcatraz, so we’re expecting big things again this year.
Congratulations Aaron!
