Free City Paper

Today, the good folks at Whippersnapper Gallery have released JP King’s “Free City Paper”, a passion project that’s been developed over the past 3 weeks. The gallery opened its doors to the public and asked for their collaboration in the creation of a community newspaper. The paper has accepted 45 submissions of writing & art, giving us an insight into the creative energies of those around us, while examining the way in which we mediate our lives through 4 themes: Money, Objects, People & Work.

Letter From the Editor
I want to examine what people are doing, why they do what they do, what they get out of it, and what they are losing in the process. I’ve created a series of questions (that will be posters) that aim to get people thinking about the subject of their own labour, the value of what they carry with them through life, the role of art and culture in their greater picture, and lastly what to do what the things that are wasted, forgotten, and left behind. These are highly personal questions for me, and I invite the public to help educate me about their lives. In light of the inclusive community residency: I am asking the public to discuss the nature of their lives with me, while also speculating how it might be different if we shifted priorities.

Get your copy at the gallery, or at various locations throughout Kensington Market.
