Photographer Jalani Morgan has paired with Toronto Illustrator Shingo Shimizu to develop an innovative installation that blurs the distinction between 2 and 3 Dimensional art. Integrating Shimizu’s pop-art sensibility with Morgan’s fashion portraiture, these young Toronto artists manipulated their complimentary elements into intricate puzzle-like layers of fine acrylic cuts. The tranformation from what was once a flat portrait into a modern 3Dimensional piece of art examines the figure/ground relationship with a fresh, urban sensibility.
Check out the exhibit as part of Scotiabank’s CONTACT Photography Festival at 99 Sudbury, May 6, 7-11pm.
