Downtown Drive – Video

Tyler Freedman does it again!

Last time he taped a camera to a cardboard box and strapped it to a TTC subway train for his video “Around The Loop”. This time his camera gets strapped to the roof of an SUV while driving through downtown Toronto early Christmas Day. The bottom half of the video (the ground) has been replaced with a mirror image of the sky, which makes this video a great watch.

Toronto – “Then & Now”

I was checking out the Toronto Before blog when I noticed Erik Mauer’s “Then & Now” project. I think this is a great way to look at our city, especially for those of us who weren’t around to see some of these moments in history.

Take a look to see what I mean…

The “L” Word

The “L” Word is a series of posts where we’ll be featuring songs and videos with the word “LOVE” in the title. For most of us, music plays a major role in our lives, especially when it comes to the topic of LOVE. From break-ups to make-ups and everything in between… music has been there along the way. We hope that you’ll be able to relate to some, if not all, of the songs we post.

The 7th pick is from UK artist James Blake with his cover of Feist’s “Limit To Your Love”. If you’re unfamiliar with James Blake, make sure you check out his CMYK ep which was released earlier this year.

Previously: “What’s Love Got To Do WIth It”, “What Is Love”, “Love and Happiness”, “Is This Love”, “You Give Love A Bad Name”, “I Will Always Love You”

Last week we asked our readers what they felt in their opinion were the Top 10 Toronto Moments of 2010. The response was many and very certain. Drake, Drizzy, Aubrey, Young Money Saviour, Air Drake, Mr. Toronto, @drakkardnoir, or whatever else you may address him as, dominated the nominations. Pretty much anything he did this year was amazing, and the people have spoken, chosen, bbm’d, and tweeted that this years OVO festival at the Molson Amphitheatre is the biggest toronto moment of 2010.

Congrats!

Thanks to Much Music for putting together the Drake year in review.

Ski In The City

Did you know you could ski & snowboard… right here in the city?

One of everyone’s favourite winter pastimes seems to follow the formula of going down a big, snowy hill, really fast on small, board-like contraptions. Unfortunately a lot of us don’t get a chance to experience the thrill of downhill sports because we can’t get out to the hills/resorts that are at least an hour out of town. Well, Toronto is lucky enough to have not one, but two ski hills run by the city’s Parks & Recreation Department that are now open for the season. Cenntenial Park (256 Centennial Park Rd. at Renforth Dr. and Rathburn Rd.) and Earl Bales Park (4169 Bathurst St. at Sheppard Ave.) are both in the north end of the city, but are accessible by public transit. They provide equipment and helmet rentals, they also offer ski and snowboard lessons to those who have never tried downhill riding before. So next snowfall, why not grab a group of friends and try heading up to the Toronto hills, it’s easier than you think!
