I was working with some kids at a summer camp a few years ago and I decided to buy them slurpees from 7 eleven I pulled out my debit card to pay and the kids were impressed that I had a ‘credit card’. I explained to them that it was a debit card and the difference between the two. It became a lesson but not only for them I also realized something very important that day. I realized that the basic fundamentals of money, how it works and more importantly how to have it work for you isn’t taught to our kids in school until in most cases it’s too late. The kids I knew growing up learned from their parents and the other kids parents didn’t know much about credit so they themselves had credit issues. So we decided to put on a credit workshop for our young people of The Remix Project to help them out, after all it would be quite hard to run a small business, record label, or graphic design firm without some knowledge of our personal and business credit works…
